Mission
and Vision Statement
Mission
Statement
– The Pastoral Relations
Committee assists the Pastor(s) in achieving the greatest effectiveness
possible in our congregation and assists the Pastor(s) in his/her
growth and
development in the ministry. The
committee also determines, with the Pastor(s), the functions and
responsibilities of the Pastor(s) and annually evaluates the Senior
Pastor’s
effectiveness in performing the agreed upon functions and
responsibilities,
including recommendation and adjustment in compensation.
Vision
Statement
- The Pastoral Relations
Committee is meant to support the Pastor(s) and act as liaison between
the
Pastor(s) and the Church Council and/or congregation in the solution of
problems or mutual concerns.
Accountability – The committee is responsible to
the Church Council,
but operates independently.
Organization – The committee will consist of
approximately 8
members, each having voice and vote, as well as the Pastor(s), who has
a voice
but no vote. The
chairperson and the
Pastor(s) may appoint members of the committee.
The chairperson may be appointed by the President of
Church Council or
elected by the committee. A
member’s
term of office is determined by his/her willingness to serve.
Responsibilities
and Possible Annual Agenda based on the Mission Statement –
Winter - Using the Pastor(s) Year-end
report, clarify the
expectations that the Pastor(s) has versus the expectations of the
Council or
Pastoral Relations Committee. Discuss
the spring evaluation and determine how it will be conducted. Review the Pastor(s) job
descriptions.
Discuss any concerns of the Pastor(s).
Spring – Conduct the annual evaluation. Discuss the findings and
any possible changes
to be implemented with the Pastor(s).
Report the results to Church Council.
Discuss any concerns of the Pastor(s).
Summer – Recommend to Church council
through the Finance and
budget Committee, the Pastor(s)’ compensation package for the coming
year,
using the PNEC Clergy compensation booklet as a guideline. Discuss any concerns of
the Pastor(s).
Fall – Discuss with the Pastor(s)
continuing education
events, reading weeks, sabbatical and any other events over and above
regular
vacation time. Discuss
any concerns of
the Pastor(s).
Objectives for the next 3 years –
1. The committee
will help and support the new Senior Pastor in his/her adjustment to
the
responsibilities the position.
2. The committee
will evaluate and communicate to the Pastor(s) the effectiveness of
his/her
ministry.
3. The committee
will update the Senior Pastor’s and the Assistant Pastor’s job
descriptions and
will review them annually.
4. The PRC will
promote the purpose of our committee as a liaison between the Pastor(s)
and the
congregation.
